Tests for the Contenders

#1 Michigan, #3 Ohio State, and #4 Penn State

Ohio State just beat Penn State to start the round robin, but all the other match ups are still yet to come. Those games will decide who from the Big Ten will go to the playoffs.

#2 Washington and #8 Oregon

These two teams have similar remaining schedules as they both have to play against Utah, USC, and Oregon State. After those three, they’ll probably meet up in the Pac-12 championship game for a rematch. I’d guess that the winner of that game will go to the playoffs assuming they only have one loss.

#5 Georgia and #6 Alabama

Both of these teams are very inconsistent, but at their best are unbeatable. Georgia still has to play Florida, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. In most of those games, Georgia will not have Brock Bowers. Alabama still has LSU and a road trip to Auburn, so their schedule is a little more manageable from here on out. These two teams will probably meet in the SEC championship to battle for a playoff spot.

#7 Florida State

Florida State has the easiest schedule left of any of the contenders, and I think has a good chance of finishing the regular season undefeated. Miami and Florida could be tricky, but still very winnable. Their opponent in the ACC championship is sill very much in the air. Whether it be Duke, North Carolina, or Louisville, I wouldn’t be too concerned.

#9 Oklahoma and #10 Texas

These two teams have very easy schedules until they will inevitably meet in the Big 12 championship. If Oklahoma wins the Big 12 with a loss to a lesser team along the way, they’ll probably need help to make it into the playoffs via a 2 loss champion. However, if Texas runs the table and avenges their loss to the Sooners, they would probably win as they get to hang their hat on a road win vs Alabama. Should be a very interesting championship game if these teams don’t slip up along the way.
