Rankings Reaction
I think the committee did a good job by putting Alabama and Texas in over FSU. Jordan Travis’ injury is unfortunate, and you can’t deny that their offense is way worse with Rodemaker or Glenn at QB. I think Alabama and Texas are going to end up in a rematch in the championship.
As far as the NY6 goes, m favorite matchup is the Orange Bowl, Georgia vs Florida State. It should be interesting to see if Florida State can show that they can compete with one of the best teams in the country without their QB and prove that they should have been in the CFP.
12 Team Playoff
If the 12 team playoff started this year instead of next year, this is what the bracket would look like with the CFP’s rankings:
1 Michigan: BYE
2 Washington: BYE
3 Texas: BYE
4 Alabama: BYE
5 Florida State vs 12 Liberty
6 Georgia vs 11 Ole Miss
7 Ohio State vs 10 Penn State
8 Oregon vs 9 Missouri
One thing I don’t like about these matchups, is the amount of rematches. Ohio State and Georgia both beat their opponents handily in the regular season, and a rematch would be pointless. Normally I wouldn’t think the Group of 5 rep would have much of a chance against the no. 5 team, but FSU’s offense might be bad enough to allow the Flames to hold on for a while in this hypothetical matchup. The most interesting part of all of this is Georgia getting another chance. They might still be the best team in the country, but the committee didn’t give them a second chance because they lost by three to who I believe is the best team in the country.
NY6
This is what I would’ve have chosen for my NY6 bowl matchups:
Sugar Bowl: 1 Alabama vs 4 Washington
Rose Bowl: 2 Texas vs 3 Georgia
Orange Bowl: 8 Florida State vs 9 Ole Miss
Fiesta Bowl: 6 Ohio State vs 7 Oregon
Peach Bowl: 5 Michigan vs 10 Missouri
Cotton Bowl: 11 LSU vs 24 SMU
