Ranking QB Situations

I rank the NFL QB situation of every NFL team:

These rankings will be based on the quality, age, and contracts of each QB. I will especially be looking at each teams picks and cap space to see if they are in position to improve their situations going forward. I will also be giving each team a letter grade.

A+’s

  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Buffalo Bills
  • Baltimore Ravens

All three of these teams have elite QBs for years to come. All of them are in their prime and show no signs of slowing down.

A’s

  • Cincinnati Bengals
  • Miami Dolphins
  • Los Angeles Chargers

All three of these teams have near elite QBs, but they have some flaws. I would be worried about Burrow and Tua’s health. Both have suffered several injuries early in their career. Herbert on the other hand has been more healthy, but I believe he has some consistency issues.

A-‘s

  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Houston Texans

All of these QBs have made playoff runs, but they have been inconsistent at times. Jalen Hurts didn’t do that well down the stretch, but I think that is more a result of not having a good OC. Brock Purdy has been not great at times despite amazing weapons, and CJ Stroud has only been starting for a year, so we’ll see if he can sustain.

B+’s

  • Green Bay Packers
  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Detroit Lions

Love, Prescott, Lawrence, and Goff are all really good, but I have questions. Can Love keep playing as well as he is for a full regular season? Can Prescott finally learn how to play in the playoffs? Can Lawrence stay healthy and take the next step in his progression? Can Goff become a superstar when the Lions need it?

B‘s

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Los Angeles Rams

Baker Mayfield is really good, but he needs to be more consistent while Tampa Bay needs to smart enough to extend him. Matthew Stafford has been really good, but he is getting old and health is starting to become an issue.

B-‘s

  • New York Jets
  • Chicago Bears

The Jets have Aaron Rodgers, but he is old, and we are not sure how well he is going to play after his achilles injury. New York doesn’t seem to have any plan for his successor either as Zach Wilson has disappointed. The Bears have too options. Keep Justin Fields and hope he takes the next step, or draft Caleb Williams, either would be good, but not sure if they will be great.

C+’s

  • Minnesota Vikings
  • Arizona Cardinals

The Vikings have a few options here. They could resign Kirk Cousins and then draft someone like Michael Penix for the future, or they could look elsewhere, maybe to a guy like Justin Fields. I do think Minnesota will keep Cousins. Kyler Murray has been good for the Cardinals, I just think he is being severely over payed.

C’s

  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Carolina Panthers

Both of these teams had rookie QBs who showed some flashes. I expect both of them to better, but neither are proven. The Colts got good production out of Gardner Minshew and I am interested to see if they resign him.

C-‘s

  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Washngton Commanders
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • New England Patriots

As far as the Pats and Commanders go, they both have high draft picks, and should be set for the future if the pick lands. Derek Carr and Geno Smith are pretty good, but older and not consistent. Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph have flashed, but I’m not sure if either is the long term answer. The Steelers need a better O-line to better evaluate their QB’s.

D+’s

  • Tennessee Titans
  • Las Vegas Raiders
  • Atlanta Falcons

I think Levis has potential, so I would stick with him if I’m the Titans because I don’t really have any better options. O’Connell isn’t terrible, but I think the Raiders are in perfect range to get McCarthy who could end up being great. The Falcons could also be in the McCarthy sweepstakes, but if they don’t get him, they don’t have any competent options on their roster.

D’s

  • Denver Broncos
  • Cleveland Browns

Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson are better than some of the QB’s above them, but both are declining and getting paid like super stars. With neither of them having a 1st round pick, it is difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel for both of these teams.

D-‘s

  • New York Giants

The Giants are in a similar situation to the Broncos and Browns, but Daniel Jones is just plain worse than Wilson or Watson with a lot of injury issues as well.
