Saturday Stocks: Week 2

Stock up, stock down, and the Heisman watch after week 2:

Heisman Watch

RB Ashton Jeanty (Boise State)

25 att, 192 yards, 3 TDs; at ORE

After a crazy week 1, Jeanty kept it up against one of the best teams in the country. The only thing that could prevent Jeanty from winning the Doak Walker Award at this rate would be an injury.

QBs Quinn Ewers (Texas), Jalen Milroe (Alabama), Carson Beck (Georgia), Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss), Nico Iamaleava (Tennesee), Cam Ward (Miami), Dillon Gabriel (Oregon), and Miller Moss (USC)

These are all great QBs on top 10 teams. None of them have really done anything yet to separate themselves from the others, so I’ll check back week by week to start eliminating some of them. Quinn Ewers probably had the best performance out of the bunch this week considering he was playing against Michigan, but Jaxson Dart had amazing stats against MTSU including a 24/24 start.

  10. QB Kyle McCord (Syracuse)

Stock Up

Tennessee Volunteers

I wasn’t as high on NCST as most others, but 51-10 was an absolute embarrassment. Tennessee is a force to be reckoned worth as they are starting to look like 2022 Tennessee with a better defense. We’ll see if they can keep it up with Oklahoma in a few weeks, but they could be a championship contender. They play at home against Kent State in week 3.

Syracuse Orange

How about Kyle McCord? That guy was painfully average at Ohio State last year, and he is suddenly one of my top 10 Heisman candidates. He is the perfect fit for Syracuse and they just got a huge win over Georgia Tech. The Orange get a bye this week before they play at home against Stanford in week 4.

Arkansas Razorbacks

I thought Arkansas would be one of the worst teams in the SEC this year, but they were able to outplay OKST for most of the game until they let things get away from them at the end as they lost in 2 OTs. I was especially impressed by QB Taylen Green. He look really good. The Razorbacks play at home against UAB in week 3.

Stock Down

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

I thought Notre Dame was legit this year, but apparently not. Sometimes teams have an off day, and that’s probably what this was against NIU, but Notre Dame’s offense is not good. It wasn’t good against TAMU, which is understandable, but it was still ineffective against the Huskies, leading to their downfall. They still have an easy enough schedule, but they may need to win the rest of their games to make the playoffs. They will attempt to bounce back next week on the road against Purdue.

Kansas Jayhawks

I thought Illinois was going to be terrible this year, and while it now appears that may be alright, I expected way more from Kansas’ offense. They had too many turnovers, and while this loss doesn’t affect them in Big 12 contention, it makes me way less confident in the Jayhawks.

Auburn Tigers

The second hand embarrassment of even being from the same state as these losers is killing me. Cal? They lost to Cal? Payton Thorne is the same old Payton Thorne, and the Tigers have an awful O-line. If they were dominated like that in the trenched against Cal, what’s going to happen in SEC play? They theoretically still have time to turn things around, but I don’t see it. It may be a few years till they get good as they continue to recruit well.

Game of the Week

Arkansas at Oklahoma State 31-39 2OT

After the first half, I thought Arkansas was going to win this one by 20+, but OKST forced some costly turnovers and kept fighting until they got the win. There was big plays aplenty on both sides, and it was a great comeback for the Cowboys.

Player of the Week

RB Ashton Jeanty (Boise State)

Grinder of the Week

WR Nick Marsh (Michigan State)
