Heisman Contenders
QB: Michael Penix Jr. (Washington)
Stats: 69.4%, 3,201 yards, 26 TDs, 7 INTs, rushing TD
Heisman Performance: 22/37, 302 yards, 4 TDs, INT (vs Oregon)
Michael Penix has been one of the best QBs in the country, but has struggled against inferior opponents like Arizona and ASU. If he can be a little more consistent, and if Washington wins the Pac 12, Penix should win the Heisman.
QB Bo Nix (Oregon)
Stats: 78.1%, 2,723 yards, 25 TDs, 2 INTs, 5 rushing TDs
Heisman Performance: 29/38, 386 yards, 6 total TDs, INT (vs Cal)
Bo Nix has improved his accuracy every year, and now is a consistent star. His only problem is that Penix outplayed him when they played against each other. However, Oregon will probably get a shot at a rematch, and if Oregon wins, Bo Nix may just win the Heisman.
QB Jordan Travis (Florida State)
Stats: 64.4%, 2,469 yards, 19 TDs, 2 INTs, 7 rushing TDs
Heisman Performance: 23/31, 342 yards, 5 total TDs, INT (vs LSU)
Jordan Travis hasn’t put up as much eye-popping numbers as Penix and Nix, but he has been consistently good for a playoff contender.
QB Jayden Daniels (LSU)
Stats: 72.1%, 2,792 yards, 27 TDs, 4 INTs, 684 rushing yards, 6 rushing TDs
Heisman Performance: 15/21, 15 att, 389 total yards, 4 total TDs (@ Mizzou)
Jayden Daniels has been playing almost to the level of Bryce Young when he won the Heisman, but there’s a problem. LSU has three losses, which means LSU will not go to the SEC championship, or the playoffs, leaving Jayden Daniels with a New York invite and nothing more.
RB Ollie Gordon II (OKST)
Stats: 174 att, 1,224 yards, 12 TDs, 22 rec, 219 yards, receiving TD
Heisman Performance: 29 car, 6 rec, 284 total yards, 2 total TDs (vs KU)
Ollie Gordon II has turned Oklahoma State into the hottest team in the country. Had he started the season, OKST could be undefeated and in playoff contention. I believe Gordon should be considered for Heisman ballots.
